The Gorge - I use to climb with my buddy Keith back when we were teenagers. But as I got older my interests went els wear. In 2021 my friend Lee called me and gave me this “We’re not getting any younger” speech. His idea was to get out to see and touch places that no one has ever been. He had previously taken a trip to the Oregon coast and visited a place called The Devils Cauldron. It’s a majestic place that has practically a 360 degree wall of cliffs. It’s almost as if the earth built a football stadium on the edge of the ocean that you can peer over. Where waves crash up to 100 feet onto the cliff walls. It’s huge to say the least with its ocean filled 300 foot sea walls. After Lee told me about this place, he suggested that we could eventually rappel down this cliff for a future goal after a few years. We wound up concurring that goal just a few months later. This song represents the natural beauty that I find when driving through the Columbia Gorge here in Oregon and Washington.

Lyrics

THE GORGE By: Howie Askay

Take time to disappear, Life’s calling
Red skies and a half moons tear, I’m stalling
I’m heading home, But not on my own

Cliff walls and white capped waves, I’m falling
Lost voice on wind swept days, Keep calling
I need to roam, Not on my own

Through the Gorge I find, Everything a sign
Whisper softly so you can fill your mind

Don’t erase that photograph, I want it
It makes me feel like I’m cut in half, It’s fantastic
I see my home, But not on my own

Through this life I find, Everything a sign
Whisper softly so you can fill your mind

Raise your fins and settle down, Start spawning
A captured mood tied to a speechless clown, you haunt me

How you have grown, But not on your own
I need to roam, But not on my own
We found our home, Were not on our own
Were going home
